Love Hotel Prices in Japan: Rest, Overnight and Extra Charges

How much does a love hotel cost in Japan? Check the exact hotel, room, date and time window. A “rest” price is not an overnight price, and a starting price is not a quote for every room. Below are two published Tokyo examples and the questions that help you understand the total before choosing a room.

Official sources checked: 22 September 2026. This is a guide to accommodation charges. No room inspection, test stay or live availability check was performed.

Two published Tokyo price examples

Balian Resort Shinjuku Glamping: the official branch page lists day use from ¥6,300 and overnight stays from ¥12,300, for one room used by two guests. Check the branch’s published information.

Balian Resort Shinjuku Island: the official branch page lists day use from ¥8,800 and overnight stays from ¥16,800, for one room used by two guests. Check the branch’s published information.

These are two branches of one hotel group, not a national average, a ranking or tonight’s guaranteed rates. Compare the room category, dates, included time and occupancy before comparing the headline prices. The advertised minimum may be unavailable when you arrive.

Rest, free time and overnight: read the time window

Rest / 休憩: a short-use plan. Check both the permitted entry period and the maximum duration. Do not assume every hotel offers the same two- or three-hour allowance.

Free time / フリータイム or service time / サービスタイム: a named time-band plan. “Free” does not mean zero cost or an unlimited stay. Read the latest departure time; arriving near the end of a band may leave much less time than you expect.

Overnight / 宿泊: a night-stay plan with its own entry and departure conditions. A 24-hour reception does not mean the overnight price starts at any hour. Balian’s official plan explanation says hours depend on the branch, room and date, with different conditions on special dates.

Before entering: read the total, not just “from”

Check five things together: the room type, today’s date category, the number of guests, the included stay window and the checkout deadline. Ask whether the displayed amount includes tax and whether extras are optional. A per-room amount and a per-person amount are not directly comparable.

A published calculation example: Balian’s extension FAQ uses a Shinjuku main-branch Royal Garden room with a ¥15,300 base rest charge and ¥2,600 per 30-minute extension for two guests. One extra hour adds ¥5,200, for ¥20,500 before other extras. This explains that specific example; check the current room/date conditions rather than treating it as a quote for your stay.

Extensions, extras and payment

Ask how the hotel calculates extensions and whether extending changes the plan. Balian’s extension FAQ publishes different charges by branch and room, includes exceptions to the usual time unit, and says an extension may be unavailable because of reservations. Do not assume all Japanese hotels use one extension rule.

Check separately for food, drinks, paid rental items and any occupancy supplement. Before payment, ask for the room charge and extras to be distinguished if the total is unclear.

Do not rely on a blanket claim that check-in or payment is always automated. For example, the Shinjuku Island branch lists front-desk payment in advance and accepts cash and specified card/electronic methods. Confirm the exact method your chosen hotel accepts.

Japanese questions you can show on your phone

この料金は一部屋分ですか?
Is this price for one room?

何時まで利用できますか?
Until what time can we use the room?

延長料金はいくらですか?
How much does an extension cost?

追加料金はありますか?
Are there any extra charges?

Keep the confirmed checkout time and plan conditions where you can check them. If you need a full night of sleep, compare the actual permitted stay rather than choosing the smallest advertised number.

Next: understand the stay or choose an area
